I saw these once before in a 50s cars book... They are just so uncanny valley, especially with the 57 Chevy. That’s just wrong. But there used to be car accessory catalogs full of stuff like this, from different hubcaps to fender skirts for pretty much anything to dual aerials and quad headlights and wha tever else you could think of to try and “update” the look of your car.

Now that is something so incredibly a product of its time that it really is quite fascinating. Well I've seen modern facia swaps on older cars (and not just Challengers and stuff like that). It looks more delusional than anything when you get Escalade taillights on a previous gen Tahoe but the world would be more boring without them.

Back in the ‘70s, us high schoolers were looking at the underwear models in the Sears Catalog in private and passing around the latest J.C.Whitney catalog amongst ourselves. Both were serious stuff, core research material .

Hindsight is 20/20. Who thought
in the 50's an older
car could be more desirable?

By the early 90's, just before the dawn of widespread internet, we had moved onto Victoria's Secret catalogs. But we still had JC Whitney, and it was serious stuff.

History repeating itself. Love it! We knew the page number to every possible nipple from year to year. With VS I guess you got to see real ones. Thankfully we were able to grow out of that. The Summ it catalog? Not so much.

I believe that Packard is out of the factory like that. Packard couldn’t afford to upd
ate the sheetmetal, so they went cheap with the adapters to try and fit in with the quad-headlight ‘58 cars, but still using the ‘56-’57 fenders.

True. The collectible classic market hadn't really emerged by then.

There was the occasional nip-slip in VS, and you’re damn right we knew where every one of them was!
